I am going to make a box for a ten inch sub what size of wood ?

i am thinking 3/4 " plywood and what sounds best a closed or ported box the sub works for both but i don't know which to use . also do you know what the differenc in the sound between the ported and sealed box and which music plays best with each box i hear metal , rock , and hip-hop
