I have an invention that I wish to place in the public domain?

"When you do something for nothing that's what its worth..." quote stolen from my grandfather...He knew Henry Ford and Tom Edison.. the reason I bring that up is this control of your product seems to be secondhand to controlling how it might be used or appropriated..very noble ..but my friend get a copyright on all papers and notes and scribbles and get a patent on your intelligence and make your product after that available to those you wish. Even then your product if really unique will be sold and your name will go along with Philo Farnsworth unknown by most..getting the rights to the goods is as important as the project itself..Find a para-legal contact legal zoom.com but believing in the innate goodness of man and hoping for the best ,well ...your in for a shock...sorry for the straight talk..I have gone a similar route and I still have bad dreams about all the stuff I did wrong...Well get that patent ,or copyright,,,have a good one from the E
