I had a timing kit & valve cover gasket repl. on my 2004 optima. Now the timing belt &oil pump is out?

The mech. says the engine has sludge and thats what caused this, before this the car ran great w/ normal oil changes, we took it in for front axle replacements on both sides and a simple tuneup.
